Cette vidéo (3 min.) présente le cycle de vie du pétrole en images à travers l’oeil du photographe Edward Burynsky. Il racontre notamment que pour produire l’équivalent en carbone d’un litre d’essence, il faudrait 23 tonnes métriques de biomasse!

Here’s a nice space-saving design: an electric piano integrated into a dining room table, photographed by Joost van Brug. This could be a lot more space-saving if they’d built it into a small dining room table — that thing is bigger than my apartment!

We profiled Google’s Data Liberation Front when the initiative was first made public last year, but what has Google’s in-house data export team been up to since? Designing stickers, for one thing.

« CAGE FREE DATA, » they proclaim, which sums up the Data Liberation Front’s efforts succinctly. The team’s goal is nothing less than to make it simple for people to leave Google’s many services, taking e-mails, photos, and documents along with them.
Its most recent work has been on Google Docs, which now sports a batch download option. Select the documents you want, click a button, and Google will zip them all into one compressed archive of up to 2GB and mail them to you.

On a recent visit to Google’s Chicago office, where the DLF team is based, we sat down with team leader Brian Fitzpatrick to talk more about how and why he wants to make it easy for people to abandon Google’s services.

Vous êtes une fille? Vous n’aimez pas les maths? Vous avez peur des chiffres? C’est la faute à votre maitresse de primaire qui vous a transmis sa peur de la matière… C’est ce que montre une étude américaine…
Ma sœur étant prof en primaire, il faudra que je lui demande si elle a peur des maths afin de préserver des générations de futures Nobel d’un échec cuisant!

Female teachers transmit math anxiety to female students

Girls often believe themselves to be bad at math, in accordance with gender stereotyping, and often experience high levels of anxiety about the subject. That anxiety appears to be driven by social influences, and may be vanishing in early education. Still, identifying its causes could help eliminate it at later stages of education, and prevent it from making a reappearance in young girls.
